Integrated Maize Production Using Minimum Tillage Technique

An Initiative by KEDAN Limited in Partnership with GIZ

At KEDAN Limited, we are promoting a more sustainable future for maize production.

Our project, “Integrated Maize Production Using Minimum Tillage Technique”, introduces farmers to sustainable farming practices that protect the soil, increase productivity and build resilience to climate change.

Our Core Practices

To achieve sustainable transformation, our training focuses on key practices:

1.  The Use of Rippers: As a sustainable alternative to conventional ploughing, to conserve soil structure, retain moisture and reduce costs.

2.  Strict Use of Organic Fertilizer: To restore soil health and promote natural fertility.

3.  Use of Cover Crops: As part of our sowing methods, cover crops are introduced to give nitrogen back to the soil, making it more viable. By employing cover crops, we gradually gravitate from minimum tillage towards zero tillage.

4.  Agroforestry: Planting trees because its key to improving climate change and contributes to the environmental ecosystem at large.

This training covers regenerative agriculture, conservation agriculture and all forms of climate-smart agriculture.

Inclusive Growth

We prioritize women and young people, while also supporting farmers in general, ensuring that the benefits of sustainable agriculture reach those who need it most.

A Collaborative Approach

The project is implemented through a strong consortium involving the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs)  and Paara-Agro Enterprise.

Partnership

This project is co-funded by the European Union (EU) and implemented by GIZ through the Agribusiness Facility for Africa (ABF) program with GIZ as the main implementing partner.
